How long does it take for CBD to start working?

Tinctures and Edibles

That really depends on the form of the CBD you are taking.

If you are taking CBD oil sublingually, such as the drops we offer at ITZEL’s HEMP, it will get absorbed into your blood stream right away. This means CBD will take effect on your body pretty much straight away. How quickly you feel it will depend on what you are looking to achieve. If you are taking CBD for anxiety, stress or focus, you will feel it within minutes. If you are taking CBD for pain management or sleep, CBD might take 10-20 minutes to fully feel the effect.***

We recommend that you leave the drops under your tongue for about 1 minute to allow the CBD to get into the bloodstream more rapidly.

However, if you are taking CBD in a form that will go through digestion then it will take significantly longer. So if you are taking capsules, edibles or even just swallowing oils or tinctures, then the CBD has to go to your stomach and only then into small intestine where it gets absorbed into the bloodstream. The length of this process will depend on how empty or full your stomach is and how well your digestion works.

If you are taking CBD on empty stomach, then it might take only 20 minutes to get into the bloodstream, after which it might take some time to take effect as discussed previously.

If you are taking CBD with food, then it might take quite a while to actually get into your small intestine where it can be absorbed.

Also, it is important to keep in mind that most of us struggle with poor digestion, so how much will actually get absorbed is a question on its own. However, CBD might help you heal digestion, which is always a plus.

When you are making a decision of when to take CBD and how much to take, take into the consideration the above points regarding the length of time CBD takes to have an effect.
